"Mrs. F.C. Watkins claimed by death Mrs. F.C. Watkins of Kernersville, mother of Mrs. CE Roberts and Mrs. J.E. Edwards, both of this city, passed away at the home of a daughter in Kernersville early last Thursday morning.
Rev. JD Crawford and FD Rogers, both of Kernersville, conducted funeral services. Internment made in Mount Grier cemetery there.
Mrs. Fannie Lyon Watkins was born in Orange County, North Carolina on March 30, 1848. The daughter of J. F. and Atelia Holden Lyon, she spent her early life there, being educated in the public schools of that section. She married in 1870 to F. C. Watkins, a native of Halifax, VA. He was also a veteran of the Civil War. He died in 1907 from old wounds received in that war. All her children survive, including the three sons, Fayette Watkins of Winston-Salem, and Lyon and Jack Watkins both of Kernersville and five daughters, Mrs. J L Hepler and Mrs. J. E. Edwards both of Mount Airy, Mrs. F. S. Vaughn, Greensboro and Mrs. W. L. Erkelere of New York City. She is survived also by three brothers, JA Lyon, Durham, C.A. and W. S. Lyon, both of Greensboro and two sisters - Mrs. Walter Watkins of Hillsboro and Mrs. Alice Blunt of Washington, DC."
