The flight jacket was worn in wwii by us bomber flight crews. These jackets were made out of leather and typically had a heavy fleece lining for warmth. The bomber planes had to fly at high altitudes to avoid being detected or get out of range of the flak from the guns below. It is extremely cold at high altitudes. Often the gunners fingers would freeze to the guns. The high altitudes also created other hazards such as thin air. The bomber jackets or flight jackets were created to allow freedom of movement and be warm. They are very stylish jackets and look good too.
