Copernicus was a Polish astronomer and mathematician. He was born in 1473. He attended the University of Bologna in Italy where he studied Astrology to prepare for a career in the Church. At night, he studied the stars. He never took the orders to become a priest. He spoke both Latin and German fluently.

Nicolaus Copernicus theory is Heliocentric:

Theory of science - sun the center of universe not the earth, as was the belief of that day, to believe that the earth was not the center of the universe was heretical and could get a person burnt at the stake by church authorities.

Copernicus built a model to depict his theory.

In 1514, Copernicus wrote a book on his finding and distributed that book to his friends only. In the book, Copernicus said the sun was the center of the universe not the earth. The sun setting and rising was a direct correlation to the earth's rotation. The earth's seasons were caused by the revolutions around the sun. And, the retrograde of the planets was caused by the earth's motion. The error in his theory was that Copernicus believed that the planets revolved around the sun in perfect circles rather than eclipses.

The book was published 2 months before Copernicus died in his bed in May 1543.

He made 1st major break from ancient Greek science

“On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres”

Theorized that the sun, not the Earth, was the center of the universe.
