Green Bean Casserole Recipe
This is a delicious recipe from my mother's recipe collection. Green beans are always a challenge to serve differently. I usually fix my green beans by boiling them up with a slab of bacon or a dab of bacon grease. This Casserole is always good for company as a side dish.
To Prepare Recipe: Saute the mushrooms and onion in butter. Add the flour and cook until smooth. Put in double boiler. Add milk and cream. Stir in double boiler over boiling water until thickened. Add the cheese, hot pepper sauce, soy sauce, salt and pepper. Stir until cheese is melted. Cook green beans in salted water until tender. Drain. Mix green beans with mushrooms, water chestnuts and cheese sauce. Pour into Casserole dish and sprinkle with almonds. Bake for 20 minutes at 375 degrees.
Stream string beans with 2 tsp. butter and 3/4 cup of water for 10 minutes
Combine soup and onions. Add cooked beans. Mix well. put mixture in casserole dish. Top with crushed crackers and crackers. Bake at 350 degrees until cheese is melted.
