Redwood National and State Parks:

Myth: Sasquatch or Big Foot rooms the Callifornia Redwood forests

The giant Redwoods grow along the Northern Coast of California and are the tallest trees in the world. They are only found in California and China. It is International Biosphere reserve and a World Heritage site. The Redwood National and State Parks Headquarters is located in Crescent City. You can rent mountain bikes, inner tubes and inflatable kayaks in the area. Redwood trees grow over 350 ft tall and have a diameter of about 22 ft round. Their bark can be about 12 inches thick and it is spongy allowing the tree to absorb and retain water.  Because the redwood tree retains water, it survives forest fires. They can live to be over 2000 years old. Redwoods are resistant to disease and insects.

Humboldt Redwoods State Park is the largest redwood park in California with over 53000 acres. Towns that are close to Humboldt Redwoods State Park are: Scotia, Pepperwood, Garberville, Phillipsville and Weott. Myers Flat is where you can drive through a living Redwood tree.

Avenue of Giants is a 32 mile scenic highway. Directions to the Avenue of Giants: from San Francisco take highway 101 (the Redwood highway) north to the Avenue of Giants. It is north of Garberville. lodging nearby: Garberville Hotels

Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park is the northernmost California Redwood Park. It is located 18 miles south of Pelican State Beach and 10 miles east of Crescent city. It has beautiful canyon overlooks.  At Simpson Reed Grove, located in the park, are picnic and swimming areas. At nearby Stout Grove you will find a visitor�s center and from there a campground, an information center where you can rent mountain bikes, inner tubes and inflatable kayaks.  Lodging nearby: Crescent City hotels

Redwood National Park is near the town of Orick. The tallest trees are at Redwood Creek watershed.

At the Tall Trees Grove you will need a vehicle permit. You can hike, camp, and go horseback riding.

Smith River National Recreation Area is west of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park.  Here you can fish for salmon and steelhead trout, camp, hike, raft, kayak.

Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park is Virgin Redwood forests that are located along the coastline. There are over 1400 acres. There is a visitors center with information and hiking trails.

Newton B Drury Scenic Parkway is 8 miles of redwood forests.
