christmas here in the nc mountains was quiet. I went to Mt. Airy to visit my parents. I went I-40west then I-77 north. Its about a 3 hour ride. Anyway, the weather last Saturday through Tuesday, Christmas day was quite dreary, chilly, cloudy, gray skies and drizzling rain here and there. There wasn’t too much traffic coming home on Christmas day.
the last 2 weekends we’ve gone downtown Asheville and then to the mall on Tunnel Rd. The traffic was terrible - bumper to bumper. 2 weekends ago, we went to Merrimon Ave. via Biltmore Ave instead of taking Hwy. 240. it was about 2:00pm. While waiting in traffic, I noticed a lot of people walking about town. Then this last weekend, we went to Tunnel Rd shopping about the same time. It was bumper to bumper again. It still wasn’t as bad as it will be when Christmas shopping starts. However, I dont see the deal unless the stores were having a sale or something. Or people getting a head start on holiday shopping.
This is my mid week update on the weather and traffic. Today, it was in the mid-80 s. Not too hot but hot enough. I took a walk around the neighborhood with the dogs. It wasn’t as hot as its been but it was still uncomfortable. It will cool off tonight and be just right. The traffic coming from Fairview to Asheville was moderate. I had no trouble getting on the highway nor off.
The weather girl said we were going to get a break from the heat this week. Its suppose to be in the low 80’s. It rained pretty good this past week. Traffic has been picking up. Biltmore was bumper to bumper yesterday at noon. Must be the holiday. Last Saturday getting on Tunnel Road was a nightmare. Traffic was backed up. I waited through several red lights. When I got a up to 240, I turned and went back. It wasn’t worth the wait.
Its hot here in Asheville. The temperture is in the mid 90’s. We are getting thunder showers in the afternoon around 4:00pm. I tried to sit outside on the porch while I waited on the school bus to bring my granddaughter home. I finally put a fan outside to make it abit more comfortable. School started back today. Traffic was mild until school let out around 2:35. I went to the grocery store around 1:00 and it wasn’t too crowded. I was able to check out quickly.
