Autumn leaves

Posted in weather, attractions, outdoors at 2:01 pm by admin

The leaves aren’t changing yet here in the NC Mountains. It still green. It usually doesn’t start getting pretty here till October though. The draught and heat this past summer isn’t suppose to have any effect on the colors. Its cooled off the past few weeks where you need a sweater at night. Its very comfortable in the day. You know Fall is here by the way the air feels. I cant describe it, I just know it.

beautiful day today

Posted in weather, outdoors at 1:53 pm by admin

Its a beautiful day today in Asheville. I drove on I-40 from Fairview over to South Asheville. It was a bit hectic trying to get on I-40. Traffic was moderate but no one would let me in. Fortunately, the entrance ramp extends well beyond the exit ramp or I would have had to stop. Anyway, the temperture was 88 degrees at noon according to my car. Its hot, I know that. I sprayed my weeds with round up yesterday. Some of the weeds were as tall as I am. I will probably have to spray them again, they dont look like they are dying yet. I have totally neglected my yard this year due to the heat and the fact that I ran out of round-up and kept forgetting to get some at the store. I dont have much yard so I mulched it all so I dont have to mow or pay someone to mow.

Linville Gorge

Posted in day trips, outdoors at 2:28 pm by admin

I worked at Gerber for 18 years. 10 years ago they announced their closing the Asheville plant. I was so upset I couldn’t stop crying. That evening, my boyfriend took me to Linville Gorge which is about 45 minutes from Asheville. It was so beautiful here. While we were here, I was able to put everything into perpective. Things weren’t so bad anymore. Anyway, Linville Gorge is simply beautiful. There are waterfalls here. Its a wilderness area. You can camp, hike or relax and enjoy the scenery. If you plan on camping or hiking you need to take everything you will need with you.

Driving on the Parkway

Posted in attractions, outdoors at 10:06 pm by admin

When you drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway, you must be very careful. There are people riding bikes up here on the road. I once came across a biker who rode in the middle of the lane. He didnot get over either and allow the cars behind him to pass. In this section of the parkway you couldn’t pass cause the road was very curvy and you cant see around the curve. Anyway, some idiot way behind me, decided to pass as he did he flick everyone a bird. He was very lucky cause he risked a head on collision. I wouldn’t have tried it. I followed the biker a good ways until I could pass him. Back when I traveled the parkway at night, I have seen joggers up here running in the road too. Deer on the side of the road can jump out in front of your car too. Then you have the slower drivers who are looking at the scenery especially in the fall when the leaves are changing and offer spectacular views. Dont attempt to go over the speed limit either, the park rangers will give you a ticket for just a few miles over the speed limit. If you are in a hurry, your best bet is to take another route.
