Fall color is here!

Posted in attractions, outdoors at 3:07 pm by admin

The leaves are changing all over the mountains around Asheville. Its beautiful with all the orange, yellow and red fall colors. If you are coming to Asheville to see the Fall colors here, now is the time. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a popular scenic drive this time of year. There 4 entrances to the parkway here in Ashville. Be aware that people will drive slower on the parkway to look at the scenery especially the tourists. The speed limit is 45 miles per hour. And you best keep to the speed not only cause of the curvy mountainous road and the bicycle riders that tend to stay in the road here but the park rangers will get you. I was pulled one day a long time ago cause I went over the speed limit by 2 mph. Fortunately, I got by with a warning. If you are in a hurry, take another route. The interstate highway is very conveniently located throughout the city so most everything in the area is a short drive away. The weather is cool, in the lower 70’s. You will need a sweater or light jacket.

Leaves Update

Posted in outdoors at 1:35 pm by admin

Its the middle of October and the leaves are starting to change at least where you notice it. Remember, this is around the city of Asheville. It always changes a bit earlier in the higher elevations say around Mt. Mitchell and Mt. Pisgah. I haven’t been up on the Blue Ridge parkway this season yet but that is the way it always is. Its still cool here. In the mid 60 s. You need a sweater if you plan on staying outside any length of time. If you are coming to town, you might want to make hotel reservations in advance cause this is tourist season here. For lodging, see Asheville NC hotels.

leaves and weather

Posted in weather, outdoors at 8:38 pm by admin

Its been hot this week. Broke records for the season. Today, it cooled off. Tempertures were just very comfortable outside. However, inside was quite warm. Had to open the windows. They say the leaves haven’t changed because of the heat. Some spots are turning yellow and orange. its still pretty much green around Asheville Asheville though. Anyway, the leaves will change colors pretty quickly when they do. Most of the time, the fall colors are over by Halloween. And, the leaves always change sooner in the higher elevations up on the Blue Ridge Parkway. I’ll try to get up there this weekend and find out.

Leaves report

Posted in weather, outdoors at 6:24 pm by admin

The leaves are just starting to change colors around town. Nothing spectacular yet to report. The weather is clear today. I walked with my dogs to the small lake that we have in the neighborhood. It was just another beautiful day here in the NC Mountains.

Leaves still green

Posted in outdoors at 4:53 pm by admin

Looking from my porch here in Asheville, the leaves on the surrounding mountains are still green. However, there are a few patches of dark reddish brown leaves on my Maple trees out back. Nothing to get excited about. The color changes usually sneaks up on you here. The leaves start changing in early October, peak around the middle of the month then by Halloween  they are through. Halloween is usually chilly enough to wear a sweater or a coat.
