Enka Village

This is to give you some idea on how the housing prices have changed over the years. The Enka Village is a small community located west of Asheville. It was built in the 30’s as housing for the supervisor’s that worked at the old Enka plant. These houses are made of brick, average about 900 square feet and all look alike. When the Enka plant first sold these houses in the late 1940’s or 1950’s, (time approximate) they sold for 4000 dollars. The morgage payment was only 80 dollars a month for some! In 1979, the houses sold for about 22,000 dollars. The morgage payment for that sum was about 234.00 a month including escrow. Today, they are selling for around 130,000 to 150,000 dollars. Some owners have really done alot of work to their homes, adding rooms, extending areas, adding fireplaces etc.
