housing growth

Posted in housing at 4:54 pm by admin

Like the busineses, housing developments are going up everywhere. Land that use to be farmland is turning into housing developments. Unlike the businesses, houses are selling quickly, almost as quick as a house goes up. These new houses aren’t cheap either. Most new houses start at about $250,000 and up depending on their location. I dont know where the people are coming from that can afford the price of these new homes. Someone told me, that many of the people buying the houses are from New York and California where they sell their homes for alot more than they are buying a house for here. I’ll write more about the prices of houses when I look through the Sunday Paper’s real estate section.

mobile homes

Looking through the real estate pages of Sunday’s paper, I came up with this conclusion.  Prices for mobile homes ranged from about $39,000 (set up in a trailer park rental space) to about $115,000 for a doublewide mobile home with land. Small cottages with 2 bedrooms and 1 bath started at $115,000. These were for listing in Asheville surrounding areas, (Hendersonville, Candler, Weaverville, Canton, etc). The price of the mobile home would be depended on certain variables that include the condition of the home, how much land, location, etc.

house listing error

Posted in housing at 10:13 pm by admin

I thought this rather humorous but not to the people listing their home for sale. Looking through the Asheville real estate listings in Sundays paper, I came across a misspelling that greatly altered the meaning of the description. It read level to slopping lot, it meant to be sloping lot. That could be interpreted as slopping wet or even sloppy. yes, when it rains it could get slopping wet. I’d be rather angry if a realtor I was paying listed my property like this even though it was an obvious misspelling. I hope they corrected their error. If you are listing your home for sale, it might be a good idea to check your ad before its listed even if you are selling your home through an established realtor.

Apartments in Asheville start at about 550.00  a month. However, apartments or any housing at this price goes quickly cause its cheap and rare. You can find a nice apartment for about 700.00 a month and up, but you will have to have good credit. If you dont have good credit, that price will get you a real dump. Houses for rent start about 800.00 a month. You can find a mobile home or trailer starting at about 650.00 a month. Most all landlords require one month rent as a security deposit. Some places require first and last months rent as deposit. South Asheville or Arden is one of the most expensive areas to rent. You might be able to find cheaper rent in areas outside of Asheville, in one of the suberbs or smaller towns in Buncombe county.

Forest Lake Development

Posted in housing, city at 10:27 pm by admin

Houses in the Forest Lake Development, located in South Asheville, sold for around 120,000 dollars 15 years ago when the housing development was new. Today, these houses are selling for about 240,000 dollars. 15 years ago, the development was only in Buncombe county. A few years ago, the city of Asheville annexed the development. The taxes doubled. The only benefit you get from annexation is the city picks up the garbage. If there is any other benefits, I’ve not seen them.
