chimney rock park

Posted in attractions, day trips at 2:41 pm by admin

chimney rock park is now state operated. It used to be a private owned park until recently. Anyway, the park is very close to Lake Lure and about a 30-45 minute drive from Asheville NC. I’ve visited here several times with my parents. The view is breathtaking. On a clear day, you can see 75 miles. You can also see Lake Lure from above. There are hiking trails that lead to a beautiful waterfall. The trail can be strenuous if you are not in shape or a bit overweight. This is a good day trip, if you are planning on staying in the Asheville area longer than a day or so.

Black Mountain is a small town near Asheville NC off I-40. The town has charm and appeal. There are antique stores, art galleries, crafts, furniture stores, cafes and outdoor dining. Lake Tomahawk is located here. You can go fishing, picnic or hike around the lake. If you are looking for a home to buy or rent near Asheville, you will find it is cheaper here than inside the Asheville city limits.

Harrahs Casino cherokee

Posted in attractions, day trips at 12:14 am by admin

My son went to Harrah’s Casino in Cherokee NC yesterday. He took $20.00 with him. I told him not to go cause I think gambling is a total waste of money no matter what. Anyway, He played the 5 cent slot machines. Won $10.00 but lost his $20.00 and the $10.00 he won. He stayed about 3 hours. He said he had a good time even though he lost. Wants me to go with him next time. I think not. Cherokee is about an hour drive from Asheville if you take I-40 and not the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you go the Parkway, it will take you about 2 hours and the road is through the mountains and naturally winding.
