blue ridge parkway detour

Posted in attractions, day trips at 1:01 pm by admin

Yesterday, the news said that there is a rock slide near Craggy Gardens on the blue ridge parkway. If you are traveling the parkway here you will have to take a detour. It should be cleared by next spring. Anyway, Craggy Gardens is a beautiful place to visit when the rhododendrons are blooming. the whole mountainside is covered with pink blooms. It actually called pink beds. Its located north of Asheville off the parkway and south of Mt. Mitchell. You can hike here too. But the trails are quite strenuous if you are out of shape. There are benches to rest along the trails though. You can take a picnic. There are tables, grills and rest rooms.

Fairfield Mountains Resort

Fairfield mountains resort is located in Lake Lure NC which is a 45 minute drive from Asheville. It is in Rutherford County. The scenery here is beautiful in the foothills of the Blue Ridge mountains. The resort has a beach, golf, tennis, swimming pool and jacuzzi. Take a boat or canoe out on the lake. Go fishing, hiking, skiing. Its a perfect place to unwind. I’ve visited here many years ago when we owned a Timeshare. The timeshare gave us the privilege of using the facilities here. I dont know if this resort is still apart of that system cause we don’t own the timeshare anymore. My parents stayed here too. It wasn’t crowded so you could enjoy the facilities in peace and quiet. Anyway, I enjoyed the visit. The resort is beautiful especially in the fall when the leaves are changing. The colors reflect in the lake and add to the beauty of the area.
