french broad river

Posted in outdoors at 8:31 am by admin

The French Broad river runs through 4 counties in NC: Transylvania, Henderson, Buncombe and Madison then into Tennessee. It runs right through Asheville. The river offers lots of recreational opportunities. You can fish along the banks at the many parks along the banks in and around Asheville. Some of these parks have boat launches and picnic tables with grills. There’s something relaxing about sitting by a river and watching the water go by. Time seems to stop for awhile and you can reflect on your day.  You can go canoeing and kayaking. There are outfitters that will take you white water rafting too. You can watch birds and wildlife here. There are bald eagles, ospreys, muskrat, deer and sometimes bear.

today’s weather

Posted in weather at 5:52 pm by admin

The snow went south of us here in Asheville NC yesterday. It started out snowing pretty heavy yesterday but it fizzled out quickly. The roads never did get covered. anyway, today its cold. Last night, it was cold enough to freeze car doors shut. You couldn’t stand staying outside too long even bundled up. So, if you have pets please take them inside during this cold spell. Put them in the garage or at least provide some kind of heat or warmth for them. They can get frostbite too. Remember, there’s no school here tomorrow cause of Martin Luther King’s birthday. However, college classes are in session unless they tell you otherwise.

snow again

Posted in weather at 3:13 pm by admin

it snowing today. It was suppose to start last night but started a while ago. Its cold enough to stick. There was snow left on the ground from the other day too. We are suppose to get about 3-4 inches today. Schools are out Monday for Martin Luther King’s birthday so the weather wont effect that. My daughter went to the store to get a few things. I still dont get it. When it snows or even hints at snowing everyone rushes to the store to get whatever. They fear they will be snowed in for days and starve. I could see it if you haven’t gotten groceries for the week and didn’t have much food on hand but most people I know stock up on food. Usually, the roads clear up by 10:00am after a snow here. I’ve only seen one time when this wasn’t true and that was the blizzard of 93 when the roads were so bad that businesses closed for 4 days and you couldn’t go anywhere.

weather today

Its cold here in Asheville NC. Snow is still on the ground waiting for more. The main roads cleared up yesterday before noon as they always do. Most of the roads were clear this morning enough for the school’s to open and buses to run on a 2 hour delay schedule. My driveway still has ice on it. There’s suppose to be another snow storm coming this weekend.

snowing

Its snowing here in Asheville this early morning. It started last night around 9:00pm. there over an inch of snow on the ground. Both Asheville City Schools and Buncombe county schools are canceled already. Its suppose to turn to sleet and rain in the morning. I hope not. Its hard enough to go in the snow since most of the roads are hilly. The roads always seem to be steeper when you have to drive them in the snow.
