warm today

Posted in weather at 7:12 pm by admin

Today it was sunny and quite warm here in Asheville. I was able to get out in the afternoon without a jacket. Its turning cold again so the weatherman says. In the early morning, while waiting on the bus, it was cold enough for a winter jacket but the sky was clear. We were able to see the planet Venus.

Golden Corral Hendersonville

Posted in restaurants at 5:34 pm by admin

We ate at the Golden Corral last week in Hendersonville. I didn’t really want to go cause I dont like buffet chain restaurants. My daughter and her friends talked me into it. I was pleasantly surprised. I am on the weight watcher diet so I immediately thought I didn’t have much choice for foods. I was wrong. I filled my plate with the vegetables: squash, grilled mushrooms, green beans, carrots, boiled cabbage. Added a very small serving of the pot roast, a small piece of fish and chicken. Wow. that was a lot of food. I couldn’t eat it all. But I stayed on my diet. didn’t go over my allotted points for the day and I still lost a pound last week. But the best thing is it tasted real good. They had lots of other foods and desserts for those of you who are not watching your weight. Since it was a buffet, you can go back as often as you like. My meal cost $10.99 with a cup of coffee. I would go back again and I would recommend it.

Cold weather is here

Posted in weather at 5:23 pm by admin

It was quite warm last Wednesday so it was a shock to many when it turned bitter cold on Thursday. But that is how the weather is here in Asheville. It was freezing cold standing waiting for the school bus with my grandchilden in the early morning. the wind cut right through you. It snowed here and there Friday. Many tourists got caught unprepared for the change in temperatures so the news said. They were out buying winter coats and hats. If you are coming to the NC mountains  anytime of year, you should always pack a jacket. It quite cool, in the higher elevations. In the late fall, you should throw in a winter coat. Cause the weather is always unpredictable here. I have seen winters where the entire month of January was below zero. And, I have seen days in February reach 70 degrees. This was over 20 years ago, long before anyone started talking about global warming too. In addition, I have seen it snow as late as May here. It didn’t last long though and it was only once in the last 35 years. We’ve gotten our worst snow storms in March. That was the blizzard of 93.

Thanksgiving holiday coming up

Posted in shopping at 8:53 am by admin

Thanksgiving is upon us. Just a few weeks away. The annual after Thanksgiving sales pre-Christmas sales will be here too. You can save big if you care to get out in the mess early. Not me. Traffic will be terrible especially on Tunnel Rd where the Asheville Mall is located. The stores will be packed too. Anyway, if you are coming here to shop and need a place to stay near the mall, see Asheville Tunnel Rd hotels.

the original North Carolina bill of rights is on display at UNCA library this week. I don’t know how long it will be there though. It is touring the state. It was in Raleigh and Charlotte a while back. It was stolen a few years ago, but recently recovered. so, if your nearby, stop by to see this.
