going back to college

Posted in unca at 8:46 am by admin

I worked at Gerber Products here in Asheville for about 18 years. They shut down 10 years ago. I’ve been going to school off and on since then.  Education is the one thing that can not be taken from you. I am returning to UNCA this January to take a few classes and perhaps graduate this time around. I took a break for a couple of years. Anyway, I am a history major so that means I will be adding quite a few of my notes and essays to my history section.

cold this morning

Posted in weather at 8:38 am by admin

Its cold this morning so bundle up. I waited for the school bus this morning with my grandchildren. The wind wasn’t blowing so it wasn’t too bad but it was still quite cold. The temperature was in the 20 s. Anyway, its suppose to get to about 55 degrees and be a nice day here in the NC mountains. Its also forecast to get quite cold by Monday. I hope we dont get that snow storm that is brewing out west. We generally get our worst snows from the southwest.

great deals on clothing

Posted in shopping at 5:36 pm by admin

My daughter went shopping at the Biltmore Square Mall yesterday. She found the shop Stevens & Barrys. It sells Sara Jessica Parker’s clothing line. You know the star from HBO’s Sex and the City. Anyway, Sara wanted a clothing line that was affordable to everyone. My daughter found girl’s jeans for $10.00 and children’s winter coats for the same. The store clerk said that everything in the store was less than $20.00. Good deal. Guess I’ll be shopping here when I drop a few more pounds. I’ve always consider this part of town West Asheville, but many consider it Enka since its so close to the old Enka plant.

After Thanksgiving

Posted in Uncategorized at 10:05 pm by admin

Today was Black Friday meaning all the stores get out of the red and into the black financially speaking that is. I wouldn’t dare venture out today and shop. Its a mad house. Anyway, I tried to go to Mt. Airy Wednesday night. I got to the Northbound I-77 exit off I-40 east near Statesville and it was blocked. I circled around and headed west and tried the exit on that side. It too was blocked. So, I pulled off the next exit and found a gas station to make calls from. I called my parents to see if there was another route. They didn’t know of one. so, I went back home. 5 hours on the road for nothing. Traffic was terrible. Bumper to Bumper in some areas. Anyway, I looked on the internet when I got back home and found out that someone hit a utility pole and power lines were hanging very low on I-77. Thursday, I had a quiet Thankgiving dinner with my son yesterday. I have plenty of leftovers for several days.

Happy Thanksgiving Holiday

Posted in food at 4:17 pm by admin

Thanksgiving is upon us. I have a Brazilian Turkey recipe in my country cooking recipes section. There’s a recipe on gravy for you folks who can’t seem to get it right. There’s nothing like homemade gravy. I don’t like canned gravy or that junk you get in a pouch. They just taste funny. Anyway, I fixed my Turkey and gravy along with a broccoli casserole. The stuffing is stove-top cause its simple and tastes about the same as homemade. I bought the pumpkin pies at earth fare cause I had a coupon for a free pie with any purchase. Anymore, the store bought pies taste as good as the homemade pumpkin pies in my opinion. I will be having a quick Thanksgiving dinner here today with my immediate family. Then I will be traveling to Mt. Airy with half my turkey, gravy and pies to have Thanksgiving with my parents and brothers. They are elderly and can’t travel anymore. So, Have a Happy Holiday.
