WNC Folk Art Center

Posted in attractions at 1:56 pm by admin

WNC Folk Art Center is on the Blue Ridge Parkway near Asheville. This is a very good educational place to take the kids for an hour or so. There are craft demonstrations. When we visited the center, there was a lady making corn shuck dolls. They have some beautiful homemade quilts, baskets, furniture and more crafts.

Asheville night life

Posted in attractions, city at 5:05 pm by admin

There are lots of clubs in downtown Asheville that offer entertainment and live music. There’s the Orange Peel, Tressa’s Downtown Jazz and Blues club and Jack of the Wood. The Orange peel has recently had famous bands like Chris Doherty (American Idol) and Smashing pumpkins. Jack of the Wood offers traditional Gaelic music. Your sure to find something downtown that you will interest you.

nice weather this week

Posted in weather at 10:29 pm by admin

Its cooler weather forecast for this week. The temperture was 68 degrees today at noon. This weeks forecast doesn’t look like it will get very hot. Tempertures are predicted to be in the mid-70’s. So, its quite comfortable. However, afternoon thundershowers are expected. I have never known a Belle Cher weekend without an afternoon thundershower some time or other.

Belle cher this weekend

Posted in attractions, city at 1:28 pm by admin

Downtown Asheville will hold the annual Belle Cher festival this coming weekend. You pronounce it Bell Share. Anyways, its always held the last weekend of July. Remember, if you are going downtown, that many of the streets will be blocked off. If you are planning on attending the festival, its best to ride one of the shuttles cause driving and parking in the downtown area can be a real headache. You should bring plenty of money too cause food is expensive. My daughter and her kids go every year. My son and I stay home cause we dont like crowds. In years past, there have been close to 300,000 people attending this festival. I dont know if its connected, but the traffic was terrible today. I had a hard time getting onto I-40. Luckily, a nice lady let me over otherwise I would have had to stop at the end of the ramp and just wait.

The health adventure

Posted in attractions, city at 10:27 pm by admin

the health adventure is located in downtown Asheville at Packs Square. My kids went here when they were kids on a school field trip. Its a hands on health and science museum. There are interactive exhibits and programs geared more towards children.
