  10. Revised system of banking control
  11. Gave aid to the Irish Catholic Church
  12. Attempted Irish land reform
  13. Responsible for abandonment of custom duties and Repeal of Corn Laws 1846
  14. Liberalize trade – creating conditions for a strong recovery out of economic strife
  15. Groundbreaking legislation
    1. Mines act of 1842 forbade employment of women and children in mines underground
    2. Factory act of 1844 limited working hours
    3. Railway Act of 1844 required cheap and regular rail services
    4. Bank Charter act of1844 limited the notes the Bank of England could print
    5. Removed about 100 offences from the list of those punishable by death
