Blackbeard the pirate hung around these North Carolina coastal beaches. Legend says that Blackbeard was killed in Pamlico Sound. Blackbeard's head was cut off after which his headless body swam 3 times around the ship then sank. The ghost of Blackbeard still looks for his head with a lantern on dark nights along these North Carolina beaches. Some say they have seen lights moving along these at night and claim it is Blackbeard looking for his head. I heard this ghost tale from a local.

North Carolina Coast Fishing

The North Carolina coast offers the finest fishing in the world. Hook into a King Mackerel and find out. King Mackerel run in October. And if you catch a King Mackerel while Pier fishing for the first time, tradition bids you cut the tail off and wear it around your neck (optional). To go pier fishing off the North Carolina Coast, you might need to bring along some Fishing Reels and Rods that are designed for deep sea fishing. You could catch a shark or something. Most Piers along the NC coast offer deep sea fishing rods for rent. You can buy live bait on the pier too or catch your own. Mullet makes good cut bait. Dont be surprised, if people on the pier flock to see what you've caught.
